Annemie Spooren is Associate Professor in Neurorehabilitation at the Faculty of Rehabilitation Sciences. She leads the Master’s program of Occupational Therapy and contributes to the Physiotherapy program. She heads an interdisciplinary research group focused on person-centred neurorehabilitation, with a special interest in spinal cord injury and stroke, and an emphasis on upper limb rehabilitation. The group seeks to enhance the daily functioning and participation of persons with neurological conditions with a strong focus on translating research into clinical practice. Throughout her career, Annemie has built a distinguished international profile, beginning with her work as a physiotherapist across Europe and Latin America. She has served as a board member of COHEHRE (Consortium of Institutes of Higher Education in Health and Rehabilitation in Europe). She actively fosters global research collaborations, particularly with low- and middle-income countries in Africa and Latin America. Within these collaborations with LMIC, her research focuses on implementing evidence-based practice in clinical settings and addressing healthcare disparities in rehabilitation.
