Peter Feys (PhD 2004, KULeuven) leads an inter-disciplinary research team focusing on functioning in persons with Multiple sclerosis besides stroke, decreased consciousness, cerebral palsy and DCD. It comprises investigations of walking, fatigability, music-based entrainment and sonification, cognitive-motor interference, motor imagery and learning, technology-supported training, upper limb function and community directed mHealth. Neuro-imaging is performed to understand the impact of interventions on neural function and structure. At meso and macro level, interest is directed to health service delivery and systems.
Peter Feys was president of RIMS (www.euRIMS.org), a European network of best practice and research in MS rehabilitation that connects societies, clinical and research centers. He was member of international committees and workgroups, as PMSA and PROMS initiatives, SRRR (stroke recovery and rehabilitation roundtable) and World Physiotherapy. Peter Feys participated to MS Clinical Trials Advisory committee and Cochrane Rehabilitation methodological meetings. He is editorial board member of NNR, MSJ & Frontiers-Rehabilitation).
Peter Feys represents UHasselt as member of the world rehabilitation alliance (WRA) hosted by WHO related to the 2030 rehabilitation action plan. Doctoral research is supervised in collaboration with partners in low and middle income countries.
He was dean of the faculty of Rehabilitation Sciences which is hosting educational master programs in physiotherapy and occupational therapy, and doctoral programs in rehabilitation sciences. At career start, he worked as clinical physiotherapist in Solothurn (CH), UZ Leuven and the National MS center, was expert at the federal knowledge center for health care and lecturer at college university PXL.
