Bruce Dobkin, MD, is the founder of the 35-year old Neurologic Rehabilitation and Research Program at UCLA that now includes 7 faculty. He served as editor of the journal Neurorehabilitation & Neural Repair for 8 years and on seven editorial boards. He published 3 single-authored books, including The Clinical Science of Neurologic Rehabilitation (Oxford Press) and Brain Matters, Stories of a Neurologist and his Patients (Crown Publ). He wrote 40 textbook chapters and over 160 clinical research and review articles related to the neurorehabilitation of stroke, brain and spinal cord injury, clinical trials to enhance walking and activity of the arm, functional neuroimaging, wearable sensors, and tele-rehabilitation. He trained 37 neuro-rehabilitation fellows and received 11 awards from universities, foundations, and national and international societies including the Royal College of Physicians for contributions to his field.

His skills that may be of value to the Commission include medical and layperson writing, editing, and advising on standards and strategies to augment recovery and to assess practical interventions for community care. He looks forward to participating with colleagues and staff in the Commission’s process and goals.
